If you have experienced Mickey’s first-ever ride, then you should do it again! Disney is known for its' attention-to-details and easter eggs. We have summarized all these Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway easter eggs and secrets for you. Remember to check them out during your next visit to Walt Disney World Resort!
Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway Easter Eggs
2. “GREAT MOVING RIDE” poster that hearkens back to "The Great Movie Ride".
3. In Big City Snarl, the "Maison des Souris" sign is French, which refers to "Mouse House" or "House of Mouse".
4. The tri-tone whistle was debuted in 1928 “Steamboat Willie”. The instrument was used to record the locomotive whistle sound for Engineer Goofy’s train (1930s Jimmy MacDonald’s original sound effects).
5. “Yensid Valley” was a reversed spelling of Disney ("The final picnic" scene). This is a recall to the Sorcerer who originally held this magic moniker.
6. There were 2 storylines: Mickey and Minnie, Pluto himself.
7. The "Delux-O-Detergent" rooftop sign advertises - “safe for ink & paint”, a reference to the old animation process of tracing, inking and painting final cels (Big City Snarl scene).
8. Stay true to Hand-drawn look:
Walt Disney Imagineering consulted with Paul Rudish (executive producer) and Joseph Holt (art director) for the “Mickey Mouse” shorts. Imagineers added extra floating “lines” around items in the stampede scene to extend a technique used in the cartoons to emphasize movement.9. The marquee from mid-1900s
The entrance marquee light features blinking light bulbs and hand-crafted neon depictions of Mickey and Minnie. These were inspired by custom marquees for premieres films during the mid-1900s, such as The Great Movie Ride.
10. Disney Television Animation designed 10 new posters for the queue area. “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts were shown for the first 9 posters, whereas the last poster foreshadows “Perfect Picnic”, the new short debuting in Mickey's Shorts Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
11. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
A newspaper features the headline “Oswald Wins!”
12. The "Iwerks and Uwerks Waterworks" water treatment plant is named for Disney Legend Ub Iwerks, the animator credited with sketching Mickey Mouse for the first time.
13. The 1401 Flower Shop - a tribute to Walt Disney Imagineering’s headquarters in Glendale, Calif.
14. Where it all began
1901 and 1928 numbers above a tunnel exit at Runamuck Park - Walt Disney’s and Mickey Mouse’s birth years, respectively.
15. Chuuby (“choo-bee”) is an original character for this this ride. The bird likes to sing and dance in Runnamuck Park.
16. Vintage Sound Effects
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway featured tons of sound effects created by Disney Legend Jimmy Macdonald.

“Jimmy had founded the sound effects department in 1934, and was regarded as a one-man sound effects wizard. Over his 48-year career with Disney, he created and assembled one of the largest and most impressive sound effects libraries in motion picture history—and a collection of one-of-a-kind hand-made gadgets created specifically for unique audio applications.”
Imagineers Joe Herrington, Mark Rhodes and Kevin Rafferty searched for MacDonald’s own equipment after his retirement. WDI refurbished his instruments and devices to recreate the tone of the music. To pay respect to Mr Macdonald. Kevin Rafferty incorporated these treasures into the ride to honor his contributions.
Jimmy MacDonald took over Mickey’s voice for Walt in 1946 during re-recording sessions of Mickey and the Beanstalk. The is the voice we have known for across films, TVs, records, Parks and Ice and Arena Shows until the mid-1970s. Jimmy ceded Mickey back to Walt and took over the voice-over introductions in 1955 (the debut of Mickey Mouse Club).
18. The Runaway Railway was Russi Taylor’s final take on the Minnie Mouse
Since 1986, Disney Legend Russi Taylor (1944 - 2019) voiced global icon Minnie. She also voiced several iconic characters. Pebbles from "Flintstone", various characters on "The Simpsons". Russi brought happiness to millions around the world as well as the tremendous spirit and great joy. It was a privilege to have her as the character.
